NEW YORK – Craig F. Starr Gallery will present the first exhibition to highlight Eadweard Muybridge’s artistic influence on Sol LeWitt. The conceptual and serial artist, LeWitt, directly cites the narrative structure of the work of photographer and scientist, Muybridge, as one of the major influences on his art. A selection of paintings, photographs, and sculptures will be on view from September 10–October 26, 2019. The show, which is on loan from the LeWitt Collection, will include multiple Muybridge photographs owned by Sol, shown alongside a selection of his early abstract paintings and structures, photographic works, and modular structures. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue with an essay by Kirsten Swenson.
Craig F. Starr Gallery is located at 5 East 73rd Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues. Gallery hours are 11am to 5:30pm, Monday through Saturday. For more information, please contact the gallery at 212-570-1739.
